2017

Patrick Mullins’ 2017 season was interrupted by two separate injuries that limited the forward to 20 appearances (12 starts).  Despite the injuries, Mullins ended the season level with Luciano Acosta with five goals to earn joint possession of the club’s 2017 Golden Boot award. The former University of Maryland standout made history on Sept. 23 against San Jose, scoring four goals in 31 minutes to become the first player in MLS history to score four times in a half. For his record-breaking performance, Mullins was named MLS Player of the Week and selected to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 29. He scored his fifth goal in two games on Sept. 27 when he slotted in the second goal for United in the 70th minute of the 3-3 draw against the New York Red Bulls. In the offseason, Mullins trained with English Premier League club Swansea City A.F.C. in Wales.

The 24-year-old scored his first professional hat trick in the 6-2 win against Chicago on August 27; the first D.C. United hat trick since Luis Silva’s in June 2014. Mullins earned MLS Team of the Week nominations for his performances against Portland (Aug 13.), Chicago (Aug 27.), Orlando (Sept. 24.) and New York City (Oct. 16) with his performance against Chicago earning him the MLS Player of the Week Award. Mullins’ equalizer against the New York Red Bulls on August 21 also earned him an AT&T Goal of the Week nomination.
