On Wednesday March 12, 2014, D.C. United Homegrown and Maryland native, Jalen Robinson, lead drills, signed autographs and discussed professionalism with kids enrolled in the Latino Youth Development Program at Maryvale Elementary School. Teaming up for this event, D.C. United and Leveling the Playing Field helped give back to the community. This was a great opportunity for the young local defender to use his platform to encourage kids to overcome adversities that are presented to them.
Leveling the Playing Field is an organization dedicated to providing opportunties through sports for underpriveledged youth. The organization donated soccer equipment to the Latino Youth Development Program. The program is centered on using soccer to help these kids overcome their adversities in life, as most of the students in attendance were all from low-income families. The Latino Youth Development Program serves over 75 Latino youth daily from the urban core. The program helps youth who are living in poverty by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment.
Since 1996, D.C. United has been dedicated to serving the community in which we are so proud to call home, and with Wednesday's event, we're proud to have had the opportunity to engage with the young kids who will be the future of our country.
