D.C. United welcomed over 400 local students at its United Soccer Club Spring Classic tournament on Saturday, June 14, at the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Field. The tournament, hosted by United for D.C., the non-profit arm of D.C. United, came at the culmination of a free, 12-week soccer program that took place at 13 locations across the District.
Along with a round-robin game schedule, students on each of the 22 teams were given the opportunity to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle at booths run by Inova and the Department of Agriculture. There was also a skills station where players could practice dribbling and shooting between matches. At the conclusion of the tournament, D.C. United homegrown forward Michael Seaton presented each student with a trophy recognizing their participation in the program this past spring.
The event would not have been possible without the help of volunteers from Leidos, the U.S. State Department, Clinovations, the Meridian Public Charter School, Gallup and Northern Virginia Community College.
