“We are proud that D.C. United have been chosen as a finalist for the 2017 Citizens Award,” Victor Melara, United director of community relations, said. “We're also very grateful to our partner, DC SCORES, who do tremendous work in our community helping thousands of kids succeed on the playing field, in the classroom and in life.”

In 2015, D.C. United began a long-term partnership establishing DC SCORES as the official community partner of the Black-and-Red. Through the partnership, both organizations have worked to help improve low-income children’s physical fitness and confidence through self-expression, increasing school engagement, and deepening their connections to their community. The partnership has helped provide 2,500 low-income children in D.C. with a safe place for physical activity and academic development.
