United and Safeway are teaming up to host a food drive to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank, Mount Airy Net Food Pantry, and Food Link, Inc., on Saturday, May 20, when the Black-and-Red take on the Chicago Fire at RFK Stadium at 4 PM.
Food items will be collected at Gate A at RFK Stadium and the collection will run from 2:30 PM – 4:15 PM. There will also be a collection box at Safeway’s tent in the tailgate, located in Lot 8. Fans who make a non-perishable food or monetary donation will receive a 50% off D.C. United primary jersey coupon.
A list of most wanted items include:
- Canned salmon, tuna or chicken
- Canned vegetables, low sodium or no salt
- Canned fruit, in light syrup or its own juice
- Rice and pasta
- Cereal, hot and cold
- Beans, canned and dry
- Healthy snacks
- Peanut butter
- 100% juice
