For the third time in ten days, Ben Olsen's charges took full points on Saturday night. Here's a look at some of the key statistics as D.C. United moved to first place in the Eastern Conference.
5
Saves made by D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid, three of which came in the 78th minute or later. His biggest stop robbed Kelyn Rowe of an equalizing header in the 90th minute, but maybe, Hamid’s most important contribution wasn’t on a save as the young goalie prevented a certain score by plucking the ball from Saer Sene’s feet on a 55th minute breakaway.
51% - 43.5%
D.C. United possession in the first and then second half respectively. With Branko Boskovic leading the way, the Black-and-Red dominated the ball in the first 45. The Montenegrin completed 32 of 37 passes in his 57-minute stint in the center of midfield.
1
Shots on target from New England’s trio of dangerous midfield players. Lee Nguyen, Benny Feilhaber and Shalrie Joseph had combined for 3 goals and a pair of assists in New England’s three previous matches, but failed to factor on the score sheet Saturday night.
4
The number of field players in United’s final eleven on Saturday night that played each of the 270 minutes of the Black-and-Red’s recent three-game homestand. Daniel Woolard, Brandon McDonald, Chris Korb and Perry Kitchen all went the distance as Ben Olsen’s side picked up three points for the third time in a prosperous– but exhausting – ten day stretch. Dwayne De Rosario, Andy Najar and Hamdi Salihi put in significant work as well, each coming within 10 minutes of the full 270.
