The number of total shots for both Chris Pontius and DwayneDe Rosario. If D.C. is going to besuccessful down the stretch, United’s leading goal scorer, and leader in assists must produce onoffense. The duo combined for agoal and two assists Wednesday night and hooked up on the confidence-buildingopening strike. De Rosario’sperformance was especially complete. In addition to the goal and an assist, the reigning MLS MVP drew a pairof fouls, took three corner kicks and put four of his seven shots on frame.

The amount of shots from Chicago’s substitutes. After Brandon McDonald scored to giveD.C. a 3-1 lead in the 51st minute, Frank Klopas’ used his considerableoffensive depth in an aggressive push to get the Fire back into the match. Unfortunately for the visitors, neitherDominic Oduro, Alex or Alvaro Fernandez could muster a single shot againstUnited’s stingy defense.

The number of minutes played by Mike Chabala. Though Chabala’s minutes weren’t many, the recently acquired defender certainly made an impact. Playing out of position – the left backreplaced Chris Pontius at left midfield – Chabala made a trio of big plays inhis brief appearance. Shortlyafter coming on he won a critical defensive header on D.C.’s back post and, moments later, Chabala’s left-footed blast drew a corner kick that helpedUnited run down the clock in a one-goal game. Finally in the 89th minute, it was his outlet pass thatsprung Dwayne De Rosario on the run that eventually ended in Long Tan’sgame-clinching goal.

Total attempts on goal for D.C., compared to just 12 forChicago. It’s one thing to playwell at home – as United has all season at RFK – but it’s another todominate. For the second straightmatch, the Black-and-Red held a major advantage in scoring opportunities (20-10against Philadelphia on Sunday). The offense that sparked Ben Olsen’s side to a brilliant start thisseason looks to again be finding its form.
