United conceded two goals in the 18th and 64th minute before finding their opening goal in the 75th minute. The first Atlanta goal was conceded from a freekick taken from outside the box by Ezequiel Barco. Josef Martínez doubled the lead after making a diagonal run inside United’s penalty box and slotted the ball in at the near post.
With 15 minutes left in regular time, Felipe Martins cut Atlanta’s lead in half with a perfectly executed half-volley from outside the box. Atlanta was able to double their lead again after Marcelino Moreno found George Bello alone in the box in the 87th minute. United gave it one final push, and with seconds to go, Edison Flores rifled a shot into the top right corner after Kamara found him with a cushioned header.
D.C. United have an all-time record of 2-0-3 against FC Cincinnati. The last time these two teams played was on July 31, and it ended in a scoreless draw at TQL Stadium. The Black-and-Red played with nine men after red cards were issued to Moses Nyeman and Joseph Mora. D.C. United will look to maintain their unbeaten streak against Cincinnati and continue their final push for a playoffs spot.
Head Coach Hernán Losada on the Upcoming Match:
“I mentioned to the players this week how happy I was with their mindset and adapting to the system. Our style was very clear from the start, the players know what to do, and they like it. We’ll play the same way no matter who is fit. We need to enjoy the last nine games of the season.”
