D.C. United will play one of its most important matchups of the season on Saturday afternoon against the Chicago Fire. Having already secured a spot in the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs with its win against the Columbus Crew last weekend, the Black-and-Red is now playing for positioning.
A quick look into the history of the matchup between the two sides:
- D.C. United is undefeated at Toyota Park since 2006, its last loss coming in a 1-0 defeat on September 17, 2006.
- Through the long history between the two clubs, dating back to May 2, 1998 when the clubs first met (a 3-1 D.C. United win at Soldier Field), the Black-and-Red has only lost eight times in the Windy City.
- United holds the all-time advantage in matchups with the Fire at 17-15-10.
- D.C. United has scored four goals, on three occasions in the two clubs' history. The last time United put up four goals on the Fire was this season, in a 4-1 defeat at RFK Stadium. Coincidentally, D.C. is the only team to score four goals on the Fire through the 2012 campaign.
