D.C. United and its charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today the Tenth Annual United Kickoff Luncheon raised more than $30,000. The event, held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park, was sponsored in part by Clark Construction Group. The Luncheon featured Dave Johnson, television voice of D.C. United, as the eventās emcee. Head coach, Ben Olsen, provided a glimpse of the 2012 team and what each individual will bring to the field as the team looks to kick-off its season on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
All proceeds from the event will benefit United for D.C., which was established by D.C. United as a 501 (c) 3 organization in 2002. Currently celebrating its Tenth Anniversary, the non-profit foundation has three signature programs: United Reads, which encourages a love for reading and healthy lifestyles in six local public schools, Kicks for Kids, which provides the game-day experience to thousands of at-risk, under-served youth each season, and United Soccer Club, which provides free after-school soccer programming to disadvantaged urban children throughout the greater D.C. area.
