As part of a league-wide “Soccer Kicks Cancer” initiative led by MLS Works during September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, D.C. United and Special Love came together Wednesday for a special soccer event. Special Love is a nonprofit organization that gives children and young adults with cancer and their families a chance to enjoy normal childhood activities. In partnership with Special Love, D.C. United welcomed to RFK Stadium a number of youth battling cancer or who have been affected by the disease. Children ages 3 to 17 years old were treated to an evening of soccer with first team players Andrew Dykstra and Conor Doyle. They had the opportunity to participate in stations that included stretching, agility, passing, dribbling, and shooting, followed by a Q&A session with the players. The night was finished with autographs, photos, and a pizza party. For more information about Special Love please visit www.specialove.org.
