D.C. United and MLS WORKS are proud to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The effort is part of a league-wide “Soccer Kicks Cancer” initiative led by MLS WORKS, which aims to find a better cure for every child with cancer.
Though the initiative, D.C. United has partnered with
Special Love for Children with Cancer
to host a free soccer clinic for youth battling cancer or who have been affected by the disease. Youth will be treated to a fun day of soccer and train with D.C. United players. Kids participating in the clinic will also be invited to take part in a meet & greet experience with D.C. United players following the match against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Throughout the month of September, D.C. United players and coaching staff will wear Childhood Cancer Awareness apparel (available at
MLSstore.com
) and all MLS players will wear a commemorative Soccer Kicks Cancer patch on their jerseys. The team's Twitter account (
) now features a gold ribbon in support of the initiative and fans are encouraged to do the same. The team’s match on September 19 will also be played with commemorative gold corner flags and nets.
