D.C. United today announced that a D.C United player has tested positive for COVID-19. The positive result was received during a round of mandatory club testing held earlier this week in preparation for a return to full team training.
In response to the positive test, D.C. United medical staff have been working directly with local infectious disease specialists to treat the player, who is observing appropriate isolation protocols. Throughout individual player workouts and small group training sessions, D.C. United adhered to proper physical distancing and sanitization protocols, and no other players or staff have tested positive or presented symptoms.
Additionally, no front office personnel or recent visitors to Audi Field are at risk as the player was not in attendance for the club’s field painting event demonstrating D.C. United’s support for the black community last weekend.
D.C. United will continue to work in close consultation with the CDC, local health authorities, and Major League Soccer regarding this situation and the club’s return to full team training.
