Audi Field officials are proud to announce that the match between D.C. United and Alianza FC that was intended to be played as the second match of the inaugural Capital Cup on Saturday, July 10 has been rescheduled as an international friendly at Audi Field on Wednesday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m. EST.Â
We are excited to organize and deliver this friendly for fans of both clubs, as well as the greater El Salvadoran community present in the Washington, D.C. area following the postponement of the initial match due to health and safety protocols.
D.C. United will look to build on their impressive Capital Cup showing where they were crowned the champions of the first edition of the international tournament following a 2-0 aggregate victory over Liga Deportiva Alajuelense from the Costa Rican Primera División. Powered by a blend of MLS experience, homegrown talent, and rising stars from Loudoun United FC, D.C. United’s USL Championship side, the Black-and-Red comfortably defeated the two-time CONCACAF Champions League Winners and 30-time Costa Rican Primera División champions over the course of two-legs. The friendly on Wednesday evening against Alianza FC provides fans with yet another exciting opportunity to experience the next generation of talent and rising stars within the club.
Based in San Salvador, El Salvador, Alianza FC was founded in 1958 and have a storied history. In addition to winning 15 15 Primera División titles, the capital city club also has lifted one Copa Presidente and are the first Salvadoran team to win the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup, a feat they accomplished in 1967.
