After an incredibly successful year on the pitch, during which the team garnered the most home points (40) in all of MLS and stopped one game shy of the MLS Cup, D.C. United has been recognized by Capital Community News for the club’s work in the community.

DC United's season may be over, but the excitement of this year's success that took them to the Eastern Conference Finals still resounds throughout the DC area. But what many fans don't realize is that it's not just their performance on the field that has made this a winning season. The organization's contributions off the pitch and within the community substantiate them as genuine leaders, both in the league and the city.
In 2012, the team continued its rich tradition of community involvement by making close to 400 first-team player appearances in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area and beyond. The squad covered quite a bit of ground in the District, Maryland and Virginia, with events as far north as Cockeysville, Md., and as far south as Richmond, Va. Players volunteered at D.C. Central Kitchen, attended soccer tournaments throughout the Beltway, participated in the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House, promoted literacy programs at area schools and visited wounded soldiers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, among many great events.
