Luciano Acosta's game-winning hat trick goal in stoppage time against Orlando City SC has been nominated for MLS' Goal of the Week. The goal capped the young Argentine's first career hat trick and earned a crucial three points for the Black-and-Red as they make a push for the playoffs.
Six minutes into the second stoppage time United captain Wayne Rooney made a gutsy play to run down the ball after a deflected corner attempt put the ball at Orlando's feet with an open goal. After making the tackle, Rooney took a few touches before firing a long diagonal cross to Acosta who was making a late run at the far post. When the ball arrived, the 5'3" Acosta beat out Chris Mueller for the header and knocked it past Orlando goalkeeper Joe Bendik to send Audi Field into a frenzy and win the match 3-2.
This is Acosta's first Goal of the Week nomination of 2018. Fans can vote until midnight PT on Wednesday, Aug. 15.
