United have acquired a natural 2018 MLS SuperDraft fourth round pick from Seattle Sounders FC in exchange for Lamar Neagle.
The 30-year-old midfielder/forward made 53 appearances for the Black-and-Red (30 starts) since being acquired on Dec. 7, 2015 from Seattle. Neagle was United’s leading scorer last season with nine goals.
“We wish Lamar the best as he returns to his hometown and thank him for his service to the club,” Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said.
Neagle scored six goals in the final nine games of 2016, including a game-winner away against Toronto FC (October 1) when he scored twice to secure D.C. United’s second away win of 2016 and earn a nomination for MLS Player of the Week. The midfielder was also named to the MLS Team of the Week three times and his volley against New England on June 25 won AT&T Goal of the Week (Week 16) and was nominated for the 2016 Goal of the Year award.
