United fell to expansion side Minnesota United on July 29 after the Loons scored twice on either side of halftime. In a match that marked the return of Bill Hamid, Nick DeLeon and Sean Franklin to the starting lineup, the Black-and-Red failed to score for the first time since July 1.
United created multiple chances in the first half, with Deshorn Brown and Nick DeLeon each taking shots on goal and testing Minnesota goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth. DeLeon, who made his first start since April 15, played in the midfield alongside Luciano Acosta and Lloyd Sam.
In the second half, Patrick Mullins entered for DeLeon and made his return from injury, appearing in an MLS match for the first time since May 27. The former University of Maryland player looked lively, flashing two shots just over the goal.
Now, the Black-and-Red return to RFK and host Toronto FC on Aug. 5.
