D.C. United and Major League Soccer have announced that defenders Bobby Boswell and Sean Franklin have been selected to the 2014 MLS All-Star team. Both will represent MLS in the 2014 All-Star Game against German Bundesliga champions F.C. Bayern Munich on Aug. 6, 2014, at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. This will be Boswell’s second All-Star appearance, having been an All-Star in 2006 during his first stint with United, and Franklin’s first appearance in six seasons.
Both Boswell and Franklin were selected in Stage One of the 2013 MLS Re-Entry Draft from the Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy, respectively. They have helped the team post the third best goals against average in the league (1.00). Additionally, with seven shutouts, tied for second in MLS, United has surpassed its season total of five from last year.
“Bobby and Sean are as reliable as they come and are proven winners in this League,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. “They are both having outstanding seasons, and we’re proud that they are being recognized.”
Boswell, 31, is the only United player to have played all 20 regular season games so far this season, and has one goal to go with two assists. Franklin, who was the 2008 MLS Rookie of the Year, has appeared in 15 games (14 starts) and has recorded one goal and one assist so far on the season. Boswell and Franklin will join goalkeeper Bill Hamid on the All-Star roster, making this the first time since 2006 that United has had three players on the All-Star team.
