Career Summary

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2014 (Crew): In his third season with Columbus, Arrieta had five goals and one assist in 23 appearances (14 starts). Scored in 2-1 win vs. Philadelphia on Oct. 26. Had a goal and assist in substitute appearance in 3-2 win at Philadelphia on Oct. 11. Scored in 2-0 win vs. Chicago on May 24. Scored in 1-1 draw vs. New York on Apr. 26. Scored in 3-0 win at D.C. United on Mar. 8.

2013 (Crew): Arrieta made 26 appearances including 21 starts, scoring three goals and recording four assists in his first full season with the Black & Gold. He provided the game-winning assist in the season-opener at Chivas USA (March 2) and scored his 10th career goal and first of 2013 at Vancouver (March 9) before he was called in for international duty with Costa Rica and missed the match at D.C. (March 23). He returned to action with a substitute appearance against Philadelphia (April 6), then started and recorded the game-winning assist and factored in all three goals in a 3-0 win against D.C. (April 27). Arrieta missed the matches at Toronto (May 18) and at New York (May 26) after being issued a two-match suspension from the MLS Disciplinary Committee for a foul in the match against Colorado (May 11). He returned to action with a start at forward against Houston (June 1) before he was called-in for international duty for Costa Rica for FIFA World Cup Qualifying and missed the matches at Philadelphia (June 5) and against Montreal (June 15). His return to the starting lineup came at forward against Chicago (June 22) and he started at left midfield and scored his second goal of the season at Sporting KC (June 29). After being called-in for Costa Rica’s 2013 Gold Cup run, he missed the matches at LA (July 4), against Portland (July 7) and against New England (July 20). Later, Arrieta returned to action with a start at forward at Toronto (July 27) and recorded his third assist of the season on Federico Higuain’s “Goal of the Week” nominated strike against Toronto (August 17). He provided his fourth assist of the year on a Dominic Oduro goal against Chicago (September 21) and scored his third and final goal of the season in the match at FC Dallas (September 29).

2012 (Crew): Arrieta made his MLS debut with the Black & Gold on July 14, recording his first assist the next week on Chris Birchall's game-winning goal against D.C. United. The following week, Arrieta struck the net twice in a 2-1 road win at Sporting Kansas City to win MLS Player of the Week honors. In 18 matches, Arrieta scored nine goals and tallied four assists to earn a share of the Crew's Golden Boot award. During his first season in MLS, Arrieta recorded three multi-goal matches to catapult him into the Crew's top 10 career standings.

2006-12 (Deportivo Saprissa): In five seasons with Saprissa, Arrieta scored 45 goals in 161 appearances in the Costa Rican First Division and CONCACAF Champions League. The Costa Rican was goal scoring runner-up in the 2011 Campeonato de Invierno.  Saprissa won five Costa Rican first division championships during Arrieta's time with the club.

2004-06 (Brujas):  Arrieta began his career in 2004 when Brujas F.C. contracted him for its inaugural season. While at Brujas he appeared in 56 matches and scored 11 goals over two seasons.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE (COSTA RICA)

In total, Arrieta has made 16 senior appearances for Costa Rica, and has scored four goals dating back to 2011. Most recently, he started in the 2014 international friendly against Korea Republic in a match held at the Los Angeles Coliseum (January 25). In 2013, he made 11 appearances -- including nine starts -- and scored four goals. He scored two goals in five caps in the 2013 Copa Centroamericana (Jan. 18-27), tallying against Belize (January 18) and against Guatemala (January 22) . Arrieta also scored one goal -- the game-winner -- in a one international friendly against Canada in Edmonton (March 28) before earning the cap and playing 57 minutes in Costa Rica’s 1-0 win against Honduras in 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (June 18) . He scored one goal in three starts in group play of the 2013Gold Cup (July 9-16) and scored in the 3-0 win against Cuba (July 9) before making the start in the 1-0 loss to Honduras in the knockout stage (July 21). Arrieta's first taste of international play came with Costa Rica's U-23 National Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he made three appearances in the tournament. Arrieta was named as an alternate to the 30-man provisional roster for Costa Rica ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

PERSONAL

Arrieta is married to Andreina Chacon Wong and they have three children: Fabiana, Jairo André and Jimena. In his free time, Arrieta enjoys playing with his kids and watching action and drama movies. His favorite movie is “Votos de Amor.” Among Arrieta’s favorite types of music are salsa, bachata and romance. His favorite bands include the popular Latin rock band Maná and Romco. Arrieta’s favorite food is seafood and his role models are his parents. He enjoys traveling to Guanacasta, Costa Rica and would love to get to France someday. Outside of MLS, he supports Real Madrid and idolizes Cristiano Ronaldo. His favorite soccer memory is when he went to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He is fluent in Spanish and is learning English here in the U.S.
