WAGS Sixth Weekend Report

Beautiful spring weather across the Washington, D.C. region allowed dozens of teams to take part in WAGS action this weekend, and all of Sunday's matches were played in honor of Mavis Derflinger, one of the league's co-founders.

Some teams are dominating their groups at this point, while other divisions still remain tightly packed.

U-14

Loudoun 96G Red and the Freestate Storm are tied for first in Division 1, as Loudoun missed out on an important three points after being upset by CYA Chaos, who lost to Loudoun last weekend. The Storm, however, made the most of their meeting with FASA Elite Impact, winning their match 2-1. Loudoun and Freestate look set to duke it out for the division title.

In Division 2, the SAC United Kickers and McLean Force Green are tied at the top of the leader board with 12 points each. The Kickers won their match against the FPYC Wildcats Blue on Saturday, and the Force defeated BRYC Elite 3-0 on Sunday. FC Frederick is within striking range of the top spot, as they sit on 11 points after the weekend. The drew 0-0 with the Freestate Wolverines on Saturday, then turned around and defeated Arlington Atletica 2-0 on Sunday.

The SSA Hornets are undefeated in five games in Division 3, and they lead the way after defeating Stafford Revolution Blue 3-1 on Sunday. Bethesda FSV and Revolution Blue are tied for second with 10 points each. Bethesda pushed themselves into contention with victories in two tight contests, defeating TSC Thunder Extreme on Saturday 2-1, then clinging to a 4-3 win against ABGC Annandale X-treme Red on Sunday.

With 15 points in hand, BRYC Elite Blue are looking to win Division 4 honors, and a 2-0 win against Reston Real Force on Sunday will help them along the way. Loudoun 96G Black, who won 1-0 against the FSC Fury and drew 0-0 against the FC Frederick Royals, are tied for second with the SMU Rockets, who won a 4-3 nail biter against the Crofton Lightning on Sunday.

The ASC Radicals and the Calverton Angels are running away with Division 5. Both teams won 2-1 against POT Elite and PWSI Courage White, respectively, on Saturday, but the Angels were unable to best the Radicals on Sunday, losing 3-1.

The Pre-Divisional program is also in full swing, and the DCST Metros Red hold a narrow lead over the NVSC Jr. Majestics Gold. The Metros have 13 points after winning both their games 4-1, against Loudoun 96G White on Saturday and the SEVP Misfits on Sunday. However, Majestics Gold also posted double victories, both 1-0, against the WSC Pachuca Dragons on Saturday and Arlington Atletica White on Sunday.

U-13

SAC United Premier and SYA FCV are tied with ten points each in Division 1. United Premier had a big 2-1 win against Loudoun 97G Red on Sunday, and FCV snuck by ODFC Revolution 1-0. PWSI Courage Red, ASC Freedom and McLean Extreme Green are all within striking distance of the top spot, however. Extreme Green won 1-0 on Saturday against TSC Red Storm, but couldn't come back against the Freedom on Sunday. The Freedom, on the other hand, were able to nab a 2-0 victory against FCV on Monday night. Courage Red also won on Sunday, defeating the MSC Coyotes Green 1-0.

In Division 2, the Freestate Fury are leading the way with 13 points. While they were able to win 3-0 against the ASC Wolves on Saturday, they drew 0-0 with the SYA Cardinals on Sunday.

It's a tight race for the top in Division 3, as three teams are within four points of each other at the top of the bracket. Currently, EPIC Storm sit on top with 14 points after picking up a draw against the DCST Metros Blue on Saturday, and a 1-0 win against the Herndon Wanderers on Sunday. SEVP Tsunami are in second with 13 points after posting back-to-back wins, the first a 2-0 victory over SYC Pride United, then a 7-0 romp over FASA Elite Impact on Sunday. VSA Heat Blue is third with ten points after drawing 0-0 with the Metros Blue on Sunday.

Division 4 is also up for grabs, with the DAA Warriors leading the way with 13 points after winning 2-0 against the Sterling FC Orange Strikers on Saturday and 1-0 against Annandale X-treme on Sunday. Reston Wildfire and LUYAA SC Rage are tied for second with 12 points, though the Wildfire beat the Rage 2-0 on Saturday. The Wildfire posted a 7-0 score against the Freestate Falcons on Sunday, and the Rage came back to win 3-1 against the NVSC Jr. Majestics.

In Division 5B, the OLNY Mystics are running away with the field, and have 19 points to their name. They defeated the SYC Pride Panthers 6-0 on Sunday. Division 5E has McLean Extreme White in the lead with 17 points, though the VYS Strikers White are only a game behind with 14 points. Extreme White defeated Loudoun 97G White 5-0 on Sunday, and the Strikers tied 0-0 with SSA Whirlwind. In 5J, the VYS Strikers Red lead the way with 15 points after nabbing a 2-1 victory against LUYAA/FSC Alliance Legacy on Saturday, and a 6-1 win against the FC Frederick Royals on Sunday.

U-12

While Division 1 is still wide open, several teams are starting to get into a rhythm. Currently, VSA Heat and VYS Thunder Black are tired for first with 11 points, though the Heat drew 1-1 against the SYA Storm on Sunday, and the Thunder won 1-0 against FASA Elite Impact. Loudoun 98G Red and BRYC Elite Red are within striking distance as well, as they are the only teams in the division who remain undefeated. The score of Loudoun's Sunday game was not posted, but if they defeated SAC Premier, they will lead the division.

The PSC Cobras are undefeated in four games in Division 2 at this time, but the score of their Sunday match against the Chantilly Fire has not been posted. The rest of the field remains wide open, with many teams hovering just below ten points.

Three teams are tied with 10 points in Division 3, and Arlington Forza Red, the NVSC Jr. Majestics and LUYAA SC Red Venom Premier will need some timely victories to take the title. The Venom won their match against BRYC Elite Blue 2-1 on Saturday. The Majestics won 2-1 against Annandale Xtreme White on Saturday, but lost to Elite Blue 3-1. Forza lost to CSC Speed on Saturday, then came back to win 4-1 against the FC Frederick Juniors Blue on Sunday.

The Pachuca Dragons and VSA Heat Gold are tied with 12 points in Division 4, and both teams posted victories this weekend. The Dragons defeated the Freestate Fireballs 2-1 and Heat Gold narrowly edged the Alexandria Revolution White 3-2.

Division 5B has five teams within three points of each other, but the BAYS Sharks White and GRFL Spirit lead the pack with 13 points each. The Spirit won back-to-back matches this weekend, defeating ASA Arundel Attack 4-0 on Saturday and MSC Extreme 3-1 on Sunday. The Sharks defeated the FPYC Flying Monkeys 1-0 on Sunday.

In 5E, SYC Stampede are leading the division with 19 points after defeating McLean Spirit White 1-0 on Saturday, then drawing 2-2 with the LMVS Patriots Red on Sunday. The Patriots are currently second with 16 points.

Division 5J has the SSA Sharks leading the pack with 16 points. They defeated PWSI Courage Black 2-1 on Sunday. The VIST LFC Pumas are close behind with 15 points, though their Sunday score against Loudoun 98G White was not posted.
