Another beautiful weekend allowed all the games to kick off in WAGS, and many teams are now closing in on a divisional title. With only three weekends of regular season play left, it’s time for teams to really step up their game if they are in striking distance of the lead.
U-19s and High School
The Seneca Eagles were leading U-19 Division 3 before the weekend with ten points, and had a match against the DSC Freedom on Sunday. However, none of the scores from the weekend have been posted yet.
It’s bound to be a photo finish in U-19 Division 4, however, as four teams are tied for first with 13 points after a full weekend of games. The Calverton Tornadoes defeated the CSA Eclipse 5-0 to pick up three points, and the St. Mary’s Furies picked up three points after the Reston Nightmares forfeited. DC Stoddert Blast and SAC United Premier Azzuri did not play this weekend.
In High School Division 1, the McLean Fusion picked up their first loss of the season when the LMVSA Patriots sneaked by them with a 1-0 victory. The Patriots, who are currently in second place, cannot catch the Fusion, even if they win their next three games. The Fusion have locked up the division after playing their final league game on Sunday, besting the Damascus Sparks 3-1.
In Division 2, Chantilly FCV Courage 94 is leading the way with 16 points after drawing 0-0 with the Vista Fury, and defeating the DSC Dragons 4-2 on Sunday, with all four Courage goals netted by Brooke Borlie. The Herndon Sting is in second with 14 points, benefiting from a 3-2 win against the SYC Hurricanes on Saturday and a forfeit by the CSA Strikers on Sunday. VISTA Fury are on 11 points with but with four games left to play to just two for the Courage and Sting. They all play each other in the finals games though, and both the Courage and Fury control their own destiny, while Herndon will need to win their final two matches and hope for help to move in for the title.
Division 1
Loudoun 96G Red is leading the U-14 division with 11 points after drawing 1-1 with Bethesda Eintracht on Sunday. The Freestate Storm, second with ten points, did not play this weekend. CYA Chaos, third with nine points, defeated the DC Stoddert Metros Blue 3-1 in a much needed victory on Sunday.
SYA FCV continues to lead the way in U-13 Division 1, and they defeated Loudoun 97G Red 3-0 on Sunday. SAC United Premier and McLean Extreme Green are tied for second with ten points each. The Extreme defeated the FSC Xtreme 2-1 on Sunday, and the Premier did not play this weekend.
The VSA Heat are in first with 17 points in U-12 Division 1. They defeated Stafford Revolution 3-1 on Saturday and beat the Arlington Arundel Azzurri 3-2 on Sunday. BRYC Elite is undefeated in five games and will be looking for the title. They squeaked out a 3-2 win against the Vienna Thunder Black on Sunday.
U-17
The MSC Pride leads the way in Division 3 with 19 points after winning back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday. They bested the Arlington Intensity Red 2-1, then turned around and blanked the Great Falls Extreme 3-0. The Pride have two more games left, and if they can win both they will lock up the division. The Crofton Kixx did themselves a favor by defeating the GSC Elite 4-0 on Saturday, and the Intensity Red 3-1 on Sunday, as they are now in second with 13 points. They have three games left to play, and if they can win all three they will take over the lead in the division.
Laurel Dynasty Premier remains undefeated after seven games in Division 5, and they defeated the Burke Inferno 2-0 on Sunday. The Premier have 21 points so far, but the Annandale Fury are right with them. However, the Fury have one loss to their record, though they did defeat the MD Rush Swoosh 4-0 on Sunday. The Ashburn Galaxy defeated the Fury earlier in the season, and they remain undefeated after six games. They defeated the Springfield Monsoon 5-2 on Saturday, and the LMVSA Patriots 2-1 on Sunday. The Galaxy pose the biggest threat to the Premier, and both teams will want to win their remaining games in order to have a shot at the title.
U-16
SAC United I Wolves are undefeated in five games in U-16 Division 3 after winning 3-0 against the Arlington Explosion White on Sunday. Their closest competition so far is the Olney Shooting Stars, who sit in second with ten points. The Stars sneaked into second after defeated the Thunder Magic 2-1 on Saturday and the McLean Breakers 2-0 on Sunday.
In Division 4, the St. Mary’s Storm showed their dominance by playing, and winning, three games this weekend. They defeated the VSA Heat Gold 1-0 on Saturday, then turned around and beat the SSA Moxie 1-0. Following that Sunday morning game, the played the Moxie again in the afternoon, and won 3-0. The three wins propelled them to the top of the division with 18 points, though the VSA Heat Gold is only a game behind with 15 points. Both teams only have two games left, and the Gold will be crossing their fingers for a Storm loss if they want to take the division title.
Vista BC United has sneaked into the lead with 13 points in Division 5 after they defeated the Chantilly Magic 2-1 on Sunday. However, the Fauquier Fireballs and the CSC Explosion are only a point behind with 12 each, and will be looking for good results in their final games to try and take the title. The Fireballs tied the CSA Tsunamis 1-1 on Saturday, and the Explosion grabbed double wins, besting SAC United I 2-1 on Saturday, and shutting out the Tsunamis 4-0 on Sunday.
U-15
Loudoun 95G Red has jumped to a tie for the lead in Division 2 with 16 points even though they tied the CYA Comets White 1-1 on Saturday. They have two matches left, and will want to win both to stay on top. The McLean Green Fury also have 16 points, though they lost to the Arlington Flame 2-0 on Sunday. The Fury only has one game left while Loudoun has two, so if the Loudoun team can win both they will take the division.
FASA Elite holds the cards in Division 3 with 17 points after tying the Herndon Curve 1-1 on Sunday. The Curve is in second with 13 points, and will take over the top spot if they can win their next three games. Severna Park United and Alexandria Freedom are in third with 12 points each, though the United beat the Freedom on Saturday. The Freedom came back to defeat the FSC Inferno 4-0 on Sunday. United lost to VYS Quest White on Sunday, but defeated the Inferno 4-1 on Monday.
In Division 4, the LUYAA SC Fusion and the DC Stoddert Mischief Blue are tied with 15 points at the top of the table. The Fusion defeated the St. Mary’s Wildcats 7-1 on Saturday, then defeated the Blue 2-0 on Sunday. The Blue won their match against the MSC Rush 1-0 on Saturday. MSC Xcel and the DAA Lady Gators are in second place with 12 points each. Xcel won 1-0 against the LMVSA Patriots on Saturday, but the Lady Gators did not play this weekend.
Division 5 also remains a tight race, with the CYA Comets Purple leading the way with 15 points after defeating the Freestate Fire 2-0 on Saturday, and drawing 0-0 with the EPIC Velocity on Sunday. The Arlington Blast is in second with 14 points, but their 1-0 loss against the Olney Cyclones Blue hurt their chances for the title. The Blue is in third now with 13 points, and their 1-0 win against the NVSC Majestics Blue on Sunday gave them a much needed three points. They have four games left, and could easily take over the lead if they win all of them.
