WAGS Fourth Weekend Report

WAGS

Mother Nature finally smiled on the Washington, D.C. area last weekend, with two beautiful days that enabled the majority of WAGS teams to compete for much-needed points in their respective divisions. With only four weeks left until the final games on the first weekend of June, teams are beginning to feel the pressure.

High School and Under-19

Once again, McLean Fusion proved their dominance of High School Division 1, defeating DCST Edge 4-1 on Sunday. The win puts the Fusion well in the division lead, and it's unlikely anyone will catch up to them.

The Crofton Wolves moved into second with a tie against the Edge on Saturday, then grabbed a solid 5-1 win over the MSC Arsenal squad on Sunday.

In Division 2, FCV Courage are undefeated after four games, defeating the CSA Strikers 3-1 on Saturday, then turning around and shutting out Bethesda Riptide 3-0 on Sunday.

In U-19 Division 3, the SSA Eagles have slid into the top spot with seven points, winning via forfeit on Saturday, then winning outright against the NVSC Majestics 2-1 on Sunday. SYC Liberty is close behind them with five points.

Division 4, however, has three teams fighting for the top spot. DCST Blast picked up six points this weekend after defeating the Calverton Tornadoes 2-1 on Saturday, then shutting out the Reston Nightmares 6-0 on Sunday. SAC United Premier Azzuri won their Saturday match against the ASA Arundel Blast 1-0, which kept them tied for first with the Blast and the SMU Furies, who all have ten points. The Furies defeated the SYC Spirit 1-0 on Sunday.

Division 1 Action

In U-14 play, Loudoun 96G Red came out of the weekend on fire, which gave them a much needed six points and pushed them to the top of the division. They defeated Freestate Storm 1-0 on Saturday, then turned around and shut out the CYA Chaos 4-0 on Sunday. The Storm are in second with seven points, and bounced back from their loss to Loudoun by defeating the Bethesda Eintracht squad 2-1 on Sunday.

With no clear leader in U-13 Division 1, the top spot remains wide open. SYA FCV, McLean Extreme Green and SAC United Premier all sit on seven points after the weekend, as each team has two wins and one draw to their records.

Premier won Saturday's only game in the division, besting TSC Red Storm 1-0, then tied with ASC Freedom on Sunday. Extreme Green defeated the Red Storm 1-0 on Sunday, and SYA FCV defeated PWSI Courage Red 3-1.

In the U-12 Division, VSA Heat remain on top even though they did not play this weekend. While several teams were in striking range, none of them were able to produce the results to overtake the Heat.

VYS Thunder Black, who is still in second with eight points, lost to the Bethesda Academy 3-1 on Sunday. The win was the first of the season for Bethesda.

U-17

Division 3 action saw the majority of the squads competing this weekend, and after the dust settled, Arlington Intensity Red and MSC Pride emerged on top with seven points each. The Pride defeated the Crofton Kixx 3-1 on Saturday, and the Intensity defeated the PWSI Courage Red 4-1 on Sunday.

In Division 5, three teams are tied with 12 points. FC Frederick Royals and Laurel Dynasty Premier are both undefeated thus far, while Annandale Fury have one loss, but four wins, to their name.

McLean MPS Green Fury are currently leading Division 2 with ten points after defeating the Arlington Flame 3-0 on Sunday, however, several of the weekend's other scores have not been posted.

Division 3 teams have only played a max of three games at this point, so the leader board remains wide open. Currently, Herndon Curve and Alexandria Freedom are tied with six points. The Freedom did not play this weekend, and the Curve lost to SEVP United 3-0.

DCST Mischief Blue are undefeated in Division 4, and they remain in the lead with nine points after winning 2-1 against the Reston Rapids on Sunday.
