It’s been more than two years since the U.S. Men’s National Team played at RFK Stadium. That absence is sure to inspire a rousing welcome from Washington-area fans, so many of whom are the backbone of support for D.C. United, when the U.S. returns to host Peru on Friday (FOX Sports 1, UniMás, Univision Deportes, 8 p.m.).
Here are a few notable numbers ahead of the clash:
24 – Times that the U.S. will have staged a match at RFK Stadium when the Peru match kicks off, more than any other venue in the country. The rest of the top five: Los Angeles Coliseum (21), Orange Bowl (16), Rose Bowl (16) and Gillette Stadium (14).
2 – Consecutive friendly matches for the U.S. men at RFK. The previous five visits included three World Cup qualifiers and two CONCACAF Gold Cup games.
3 – Peru’s finish at the 2015 Copa America. Thanks in part to his hat trick against Bolivia, Paolo Guerrero (Flamengo, Brazil) finished as the tournament’s co-leading scorer with four goals.
7 – Combined goals scored in the U.S. team’s thrilling 4-3 win over then No. 2-ranked Germany in front of 47,359 fans in the 2013 Centennial Celebration game in honor of U.S. Soccer’s 100-year anniversary. Not quite 6-4, but it matched the most goals in a U.S. match at RFK, set in a 4-3 win over Saudi Arabia in 1995. And it’s worth watching the highlights again.
