Since Vancouver joined Major League Soccer as an expansion team in 2011, United have made the journey across the continent to play at BC Place four times. The Black-and-Red have made a habit of securing away points on the Wet Coast and have amassed a 1-1-2 (5 pts.) record against the Whitecaps on their home field.

United have not lost at BC Place since their debut game at the venue in 2011 when a first-minute goal from Camilo and a second half goal from Long Tan secured three points for Vancouver. Despite a 57th minute Brandon McDonald goal, United were unable to score an equalizer.
The fixtures in 2012 and 2014 yielded scoreless results as United’s stout defensive efforts earned them a point on two separate occasions. Bill Hamid secured his first shutout against the Canadian team in the 0-0 draw on September 6, 2014, and has recorded six saves in two appearances at the stadium. After a stellar season to date, Hamid, who leads the league in saves (48), will look to continue where he left off on May 20 against Chicago and get closer to reaching the 600 save milestone (currently on 592 saves).
On April 25, 2015, head coach Ben Olsen led the team to their first victory at BC Place after overcoming a second minute goal from Pedro Morales. United defender Bobby Boswell equalized eight minutes later with a towering header into the left corner of the goal. Matias Laba accumulated two first-half yellows and the Black-and-Red capitalized against 10-man Vancouver to win 2-1.
As United approach a lengthy away stretch, the next seven out of nine fixtures are away from RFK Stadium, they will look to continue their away form against Vancouver and secure important points to climb up the Eastern Conference standings. After an impressive 3-1 away win against a strong attacking Atlanta side on April 30 and earning a hard-fought point against New England on April 22, Ben Olsen will be hoping for more of the same away from home this Saturday.
