United Soccer Club is an after-school program that introduces the sport of soccer to youth in inner-city and underprivileged communities of the greater Washington, D.C. area. United Soccer Club (USC) partners with urban families, schools, recreation centers and community-based organizations in order to invest in the athletic, emotional, and social welfare of the children living in the D.C Area.
In addition to learning soccer, participants are taught the importance of a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and proper nutrition, as well as life skills that are beneficial on and off the field. The program operates at 12 sites and two middle school teams. All teams met multiple times each week after school for 90-minute sessions, and players were taught by D.C. United staff, current and former United players, and talented local coaches. The program is free for participants.
