On Thursday, United for D.C. wrapped up their fall 2012 United Reads tour with a visit to Savoy Elementary School in Ward 8. United mascot Talon joined D.C. United staff at the final stop to deliver a message to students about the importance of health and education.
The group, along with partner the Heart of America Foundation, were on site to hand deliver 660 books to Savoy classrooms. Representatives from D.C. United also spoke to students about living a healthy lifestyle through exercise and eating habits.
Talon the Eagle was given an especially warm welcome, as students recognized him from other events in the community and United Reads visits.
Savoy is one of six schools that United for D.C. visited this season. Ketcham, Payne, Bruce-Monroe, Simon, and Tubman were the previous five locations. United Reads partners with area health care centers and elementary schools to promote an appreciation for reading and literacy amongst children and their families. Find out more.
