United midfielder Zoltán Stieber has been called up to the Hungarian national team for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers on Oct. 7. and 10. The 28-year-old recently scored his first career MLS goal against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Red Bull Arena.
Stieber has 22 caps with the national team and has scored three times. He has made six appearances in UEFA World Cup Qualifying, most recently starting in Hungary's 3-1 victory over Latvia on Aug. 31. In addition, Stieber made appearances in the 2016 European Championship and European Qualifiers.
Hungary play their first match against Switzerland in Basel on Oct. 7. before hosting the Faroe Islands in Budapest on Tuesday, Oct. 10. The Hungarians cannot finish higher than third in Group B and lost a dramatic 3-2 match to the Swiss a year ago.
