On Tuesday night, United legends Jaime Moreno, John Harkes, Devon McTavish, Santino Quaranta, and Robbie Russell returned to the pitch to compete in the U.S. Soccer Foundation's sixth annual Congressional Soccer Match for charity. The former Black-and-Red standouts laced up with other former MLS and NWSL players and members of Congress to support the Foundation. The annual event raises money for the Foundation's youth programs, with all proceeds from the match helping children in underserved communities embrace active and healthy lifestyles while nurturing their personal growth through trained coach-mentors.
McTavish, Moreno, and Russell were allotted to Team Democrats, while Harkes and Quaranta hit the field with Team Republicans. The Dems jumped out to a quick start, building a 3-0 lead, before the Republicans battled back to bring the score to 3-2 at halftime. The second half was a back-and-forth affair, but Team Democrats ultimately held on for the 5-4 win.
Current players Russell Canouse and Jared Jeffrey also attended the event, making a special halftime appearance to coach DC SCORES' Soccer for Success participants in a friendly scrimmage against the Washington Spirit's DC SCORES squad.
