As part of an ongoing effort to celebrate diversity and inclusion in soccer, Major League Soccer, through its community outreach initiative, MLS WORKS, has designated June Soccer For All month.
Soccer For All signifies that everyone is welcome to MLS, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status, and emphasizes the league’s commitment to drive positive social change and end discrimination.
During the month of June, MLS and its clubs will be conducting activations showcasing the collective efforts taking place throughout the league to foster more inclusive communities. Locally, D.C. United will recognize different diverse groups, including those with special needs, youth, the LGBTQ community, and women.
Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to purchase Soccer For All t-shirts (available in club specific-colors and black-and-white) beginning Friday, May 25 at MLSstore.com. Proceeds will benefit MLS WORKS and local club charitable partners.
United’s support of Soccer For All month includes:
May 26: United players will wear Soccer For All t-shirts during the procession of United’s away match vs. LAFC.
June 2: United players will visit DC SCORES’ Jamboree. Jamboree is an all-day community soccer tournament and festival provided for the 2,500 participants that take part in the DC SCORES/D.C. United program.
June 10: United, in partnership with Special Olympics DC, will host their annual Special Olympics Unified Soccer Team tryout at RFK. The tryout will be hosted on the RFK auxiliary fields from 2-4 PM and will provide an opportunity for youth with and without disabilities to come together as teammates.
June 23: For the third consecutive year, United defender Kofi Opare will host children's charity Dreams for Kids D.C. during an adaptive soccer clinic at RFK for children with physical and developmental disabilities. Opare also serves as a community ambassador for Dreams for Kids.
