When D.C. United captain Bobby Boswell scored the Black-and-Red’s dramatic late equalizer against Chicago on September 16, the MLS veteran’s goal was more than just the third straight game-tying goal in stoppage time for United.
It was also the Black-and-Red’s 1,000th all-time regular season goal, making D.C. only the second team in MLS history to hit 1,000 goal mark behind Los Angeles. After reaching such a momentous milestone, take a look back at other D.C. United goalscoring milestones.
1 & 50 - Raul Diaz Arce
Fans have fond memories of Raul Diaz Arce and his innate ability of finding the back of the net for D.C. United. The Salvadoran forward made 68 appearances for the club and scored 44 goals in two stints with the Black-and-Red. Diaz Arce scored D.C. United’s first-ever MLS goal on April 20, 1996 in the 2-1 defeat to Los Angeles at RFK Stadium. The former front-man also scored the 50th goal for the club when he scored a 77th minute game-winner against the MetroStars on August 21, 1996.
100 - Roy Wegerle
D.C. United reached the 100-goal milestone the following season on July 6, 1997 against the Tampa Bay Mutiny at RFK Stadium. The Black-and-Red overcame a 2-0 half-time deficit with the 100th goal materializing as a 65th-minute equalizer from Roy Wegerle before Ben Iroha scored the game-winner in the 80th.
250 - Ben Olsen
Head Coach Ben Olsen has been a cornerstone of D.C. United throughout their 21-year history, so it was fitting that the former midfield hardman has the honor of scoring the 250th goal for the club. Olsen scored the third goal in the 4-1 routing of the MetroStars with a cool finish into the bottom righthand corner on August 11, 1999 at Giants Stadium.
500 - Bobby Boswell
By some bizarre twist of fate, current captain Bobby Boswell also scored the 500th goal for the club in his debut season in 2005. The center back scored the opening goal in the 3-0 win against the MetroStars on August 10, 2005.
750 - Charlie Davies
Former Black-and-Red striker Charlie Davies notched the 750th regular season goal for D.C. United on April 16, 2011 in the 3-0 win against Toronto FC. Davies marked his introduction to the league by scoring five goals in his first four appearances with his fifth serving as the 750th goal for the club.
