D.C. United’s Under-23 team lost a close match with the Richmond Kickers 3-2 on June 5. Despite the loss, head coach Nate Kish saw plenty of positives from his side.
"I am really proud of the guys' approach today and their willingness to compete against a professional side,” he said. “They were put under a lot of pressure early on and went down a goal, but responded very well in the second half, found an equalizer and then took the lead heading into the last ten minutes of the match. We had several players really put their stamp on the game and it was fun to watch."
One of those players was Jake Rozhansky, who exhibited great composure on the ball and showed a knack for getting forward and creating chances.
His teammate Matt Bailey was impressive coming off the bench and created issues for Richmond with his work rate and creativity on the ball.
Goals came courtesy of Trey Pulliam and Patrick Jean-Gilles, who scored on a penalty kick.
