D.C. United midfielder Lewis Neal went 90 minutes in the middle of the midfield last night against Chivas USA. The veteran, wearing the Captain’s arm band, enjoyed his first full match since August 25, 2012 against the Montreal Impact.
Neal underwent groin and abdominal surgery in May, and saw his first seven minutes in a 2-1 loss to the Impact on August 17th. Then, the talented midfielder worked hard for 67 minutes against New York, working his way towards being 90-minutes fit.
Neal completed 15% of D.C. United’s passes last night, the most of anyone in Black-and-Red. Keeping possession well, working to force turnovers in the midfield with Perry Kitchen and getting himself looks at goal as well, Neal seemed to settle in and find his rhythm, adding composure and experience to a young United squad.
