Spotlight: Jared Jeffrey

Jared Jeffrey 9-28-13 celebration

Jared Jeffrey, fresh off an ankle sprain, is last night’s spotlight. The talented midfielder exited the August 31st match against New York early and only started training earlier this week. Though Jeffrey’s fitness might not be at 90 minutes yet, he has not lost his touch. Fifteen minutes into the match, the ball popped out to Jeffrey off a cleared service. Well outside the box, he took a touch to settle, cut the ball onto his left foot and calmly curled the ball passed a diving Joe Bendik.
"It popped right to me," said Jeffrey. "I had some time and space, put it on my left foot and tried to put it back post. Fortunately it just went inside."
With the U.S. Open Cup Final on Tuesday, Jeffrey, along with Marcelo Saragosa, who saw his first minutes since May 8, was asked to control the midfield of a young, new DCU squad. Despite the probable Goal of the Week candidate, the Black-and-Red could not hold on, dropping the match 4-1 to Toronto FC. D.C. United returns to action on Tuesday, facing Real Salt Lake in the U.S. Open Cup Final.
