Head coach Ben Olsen
On his overall thoughts on the match…
“I thought we played well, we just didn’t reward ourselves with the final play. We had a couple of really good chances to go up after giving up a soft goal. Sometimes that’s how Open Cup goes… you go to PKs and it’s just not your night. We defended pretty well and it’s something for us to build on. We have a few days break, but we’ll get back to work on Monday and prepare for New England.”
On the U.S. Open Cup…
“I think it’s being taken more seriously. There are only a few nights a year for teams to have a moment of glory. I’m disappointed we’re out, but we’ll move on.”
Forward Darren Mattocks
On the result...
"It was a really tough one to swallow. Especially because we had to wait an hour before the game got started again. So that pushed us back quite a bit, but we did great job once we came out. We knew it was going to be a tough game. It was a great game by two teams. It was just unfortunate to lose in PKs."
On the physical and mental toll games like this take on a player...
"It's tough. I think for me, that was the toughest part for me, waiting for that hour. It's exhausting and you just want the game to end. But, we gave it our all. It was a tough one, but like I said, we really really wanted this one. It was unfortunate."
On what they do to stay prepared and engaged during a rain delay...
"We go over the game plan to stay focused. Every 15 minutes you get your hopes up to play but then there is another rain delay. So it is mentally frustrating, but as soon as its time to go we will refocus and go again."
