United midfielder Paul Arriola has been nominated for MLS' AT&T Goal of the Week for his volley against the New York Red Bulls in the Black-and-Red's RFK finale.
The play started when Marcelo won a ball in the midfield, then fed it forward to Zoltán Stieber, who cleverly served as a dummy, letting the ball slot behind him and on to Luciano Acosta, who was making a run up the left wing. Acosta collected and carried to the top of the box, then picked out Arriola unmarked on the opposite wing. The Argentine sent a perfect cross toward Arriola's foot, and Arriola cooly one-timed it off the volley for his first D.C. United goal and his first career MLS goal.
