The Opposition | LAFC
D.C. United returns to Audi Field on Saturday, April 6th to take on the No. 1 team in the Western Conference. LAFC started the season hot, but they aren’t the only team dominating in 2019. Here’s all you need to know about the Black-and-Red’s next challenger.
Recent Matches
LAFC has played five matches in 2019 and currently sits at a 4-0-1 record. The second-year club has won all three of their matches at home, with their lone draw coming on the road against New York City FC. Unlike D.C. United, LAFC has allowed at least one goal in four out of their five matches. But they have been dominant in the attacking game, scoring 15 goals in their first five matches.
Players to Watch
Carlos Vela is LAFC’s top striker. He was signed as a Designated Player on a transfer from Real Sociedad in 2017, and has been with the team since their inaugural MLS match. Last year he finished the season with 14 goals and thirteen assists. He’s scored six goals and three assists in his first five games in 2019. Other notable attacking threats include Adam Diomande, who has two goals and two assists, and Diego Rossi, who comes into this match with three goals and one assist.
Head-to-Head
When these two clubs met for their lone match of 2018, each side walked away with a point. Diego Rossi scored the goal for LAFC in the 39th minute, but LAFC played the second half a man down after Dejan Jakovic earned a red card. This will be LAFC’s first trip to Audi Field and we’re hoping it is one they won’t remember fondly.
