It’s early in the season in Liga Nacional, the top flight in Honduras, but Olimpia are currently ranked No.1. They remain undefeated in their first nine matches, earning five wins and four draws so far this season. Their most recent match was a scoreless draw against Vida.
Top Players
Jerry Bengtson is a 31-year-old striker who has been leading the way for Olimpia this season. He has scored five goals in their first nine games, including two goals in Olimpia's last three matches. The Honduran side have also earned three shutouts this season with the help of starting goalkeeper Edrick Menjivar.
History
Olimpia were founded as a baseball team in 1912 and added football in 1917. They are the most successful football team in Honduras, having won 30 domestic league titles since 1912, and emerging over the years as one of the most popular football teams in Honduras.
CONCACAF Champions League
Olimpia have won the CONCACAF Champions League twice, first in 1972 and again in 1988, when it was the Champions Cup. Last year, they qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League, but fell in the Round of 16 to the New York Red Bulls.
