D.C. United’s Youth Development is at the forefront of youth soccer development in the region. Since the Academy’s inception in 2007, United has signed seven Homegrown players to its First Team roster and successfully built a foundation of youth development through its Training Program. D.C. United’s Training Program provides training built on the Academy’s methodology and player development curriculum through various dynamic sessions involving both offensive and defensive topics. For the past seven years, the objective of the Training Program has remained steadfast: to provide the region’s premium supplemental training for individual player development for boys aged 8-11.
To bolster the current programming, D.C. United’s Youth Development is excited to be expanding the Training Program and announce the first ever Elite Training Program (ETP). The current Training Program will be re-branded as the Development Training Program (DTP). Both programs will be lead by D.C. United’s Academy coaching staff and the topics on the field will be similar. However, the newly generated ETP will be offered at no cost and participation is by invite only. There are four ways a local player can be invited to the ETP:
- D.C. United Affiliate Clubs - clubs will provide recommendations to D.C. United staff
- ETP tryout - players will be assessed by D.C. United staff (Oct 18th)
- DTP - players will be assessed by D.C. United staff during DTP sessions
- D.C. United scouting - players will be assessed at local matches by its scouting network
The first ETP will take place on November 2nd. D.C. United will be hosting the ETP tryout on October 18th at its Training Complex. The tryout is free of cost and is maxed at 50 trialists. The next opportunity for the DTP will be in February. Registration for the ETP tryout and the DTP can be found online.
