United forward Patrick Mullins has been named to the MLS Team of the Week for his three-goal performance against the Chicago Fire on Saturday, Aug. 27, while Luciano Acosta made the bench with a three-assist, one goal showing. The Argentine opened the scoring for the Black-and-Red in the 25th minute, capping some impressive build-up play between Marcelo and Patrick Nyarko inside the penalty area. Mullins scored United's first hat trick since June 11, 2014, scoring in the 40th minute before adding a second in added time just before the break.
The Louisiana native is now the team's leading scorer with five goals and is averaging a goal or an assist every 75 minutes with the Black-and-Red. Acosta, who has played over 1600 minutes for the club in his first MLS season, is the team's leader in assists with seven and is averaging a goal or an assist every 160 minutes. The two combined for the third and fifth goals of the night. "He’s got so much talent that if you move, he’ll find you," Mullins said about Acosta after the match.
