United midfielder Júnior Moreno has been called up to the Venezuelan national team for their upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Panama this September. Venezuela will face Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on September 7, then travel to Panama City to take on Panama at Rommel Fernández Stadium on September 11.
Moreno, who joined D.C. United from Zulia FC in Janauary 2018, has made 11 appearances for the Black-and-Red this season. Moreno recorded his first assist for United in Montreal on August 4—a secondary assist on Yamil Asad's 70th-minute equalizer. A physical presence capable of connecting the game in the midfield, Moreno provides a steadying force from his defensive midfield spot, bolstering United's back line while also showing his ability to transition and play a box-to-box role for the Black-and-Red.
Moreno debuted for Venezuela on June 3, 2017, against the U.S. Men's National Team, notching an assist in the 1-1 draw in Salt Lake City. He went on to play in five of Venezuela's seven remaining matches in their 2017 campaign, and scored his first goal for his country on June 9, 2017, in the 1-1 draw versus Ecaudor. Two fellow Major League Soccer players will join Moreno for the September friendlies—Atlanta United's Josef Martinez and the LA Galaxy's Rolf Feltscher also received call-ups.
