D.C. United are set to play against the New York Red Bulls in their 32nd match of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) Regular Season on Wednesday, October 27, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET. D.C. United will look to bounce back at Audi Field and continue their playoff push in the Eastern Conference.
In their last match, D.C. United suffered a difficult 6-0 loss against New York City FC. After conceding three goals in the opening 11 minutes, the team struggled to claw their way back into the game. Despite the result, the Black-and-Red have an impressive record at Audi Field this season, winning 10 of their 15 home games. With their most recent result, D.C. United have temporarily moved down to ninth place, with 41 points, two points behind CF Montréal, Atlanta United FC and the New York Red Bulls.
The New York Red Bulls are coming into Wednesday’s match after a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday. The Red Bulls earned the win after a late winner from Sean Nealis in the 87th minute. They outshot Columbus 17 to six, with five of those 17 shots being on target, despite only 48% of the possession of the ball. With the win, RBNY moved up to sixth place with 43 points.
D.C. United have an all-time record of 43-35-18 against the New York Red Bulls. The last time these two teams faced off was on September 11 at Red Bull Arena, which ended in a 1-1 draw. An early goal put the locals ahead, but a penalty from Ola Kamara gave the Black-and-Red the equalizer.
Midfielder Felipe Martins ahead of the match:
“When we step out on the field, we feel the energy, and we want to represent in the best way possible. Now, it’s not about the beautiful game. It’s about how much heart we’re going to give in every single game and every time we step on the field. We know the way we’ve been playing until now. And, as I said, we are so tight, and we are a great group that’s going to react on Wednesday. We win, and we lose together, and this doesn’t define our season. On Wednesday, you’re going to see a completely different team, a team that’s going to fight for everything and everyone that’s coming to watch the game.”
