D.C. United are set to play against the New England Revolution in their 30th match of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) Regular Season on Wednesday, October 20, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET. D.C. United will look to continue their playoff push at Audi Field against the number one team in the Eastern Conference.
In their last match on Saturday night, D.C. United and Nashville SC ended in a scoreless draw at Audi Field. Despite the even final score, the Black-and-Red had a strong attacking performance. United recorded a total of 14 shots with five on target. The United defense effectively absorbed the offensive pressure from the second-place team in the Eastern Conference. D.C. United’s Man of the Match, Donovan Pines, played a crucial role in the Black-and-Red securing their eighth clean sheet of the year, winning over 90% of his duels, and gaining 10 possessions.
The New England Revolution are coming into Wednesday’s match after a 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday. New England outperformed Chicago Fire after finishing the game with 60% possession, and taking the lead twice in the match. Despite that, they were unable to stop Chicago Fire’s attack and settled for a point after Chicago found the equalizer–for the second time–in the 88th minute.
D.C. United have an all-time record of 9-10-6 against the New England Revolution. The last time the two faced each other was on August 18 at Gillette Stadium when the Revs won 3-2 despite the Black-and-Red’s late efforts at an equalizer.
Head Coach Hernán Losada on the Upcoming Match:
“We are in a spot where, in comparison with the start of the season and with the roster we have, is incredible. We still have five games to go and, and once again, we have nothing to lose. There is absolutely no pressure on this team. We are still over-performing and are doing great things with limited resources. I’m happy with the mindset of this team. It’s always something to respect.”
