Match Preview: D.C. United play the Philadelphia Union

D.C. United will play their third friendly of the 2021 Preseason presented by Leidos on Wednesday, March 31 at 3 p.m. ET against the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park. It will be the Black-and-Red's first matchup against MLS competition in 2021. In their two previous friendlies, United drew 1-1 to Greenville Triumph SC of the United Soccer League (USL) League One and won 5-1 against Loudoun United FC of the USL Championship. The Black-and-Red will look to keep improving on Wednesday afternoon as they continue their preparation for the 2021 MLS Regular Season.


In their last friendly against Loudoun United on Friday, March 26, D.C. United scored two goals in the first half. The first was scored by Ola Kamara in the 19th minute via a low cross played in by Yamil Asad that Kamara tapped in at the back post. The second goal came from a 30th-minute corner kick played in by Edison Flores that Frédéric Brillant rose and headed into the back of the net.


D.C. United added three more goals in the second half with Loudoun United scoring a consolation goal in the 84th minute to make the final score 5-1. The Black-and-Red made several second half substitutions, including Jon Kempin, Moses Nyeman, Adrien Perez, Kimarni Smith, and Yordy Reyna.


The match on Wednesday will be played under normal Major League Soccer rules and will consist of two 45-minute halves. The match will not be streamed and will be played behind closed doors.
