What to Know?
D.C. United fell into 10th place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings after last weekend's 5-3 loss to the Red Bulls, putting the Black-and-Red one spot behind the 2023 MLS Audi Cup playoff line.
With three matches left in the regular season, D.C. United travels to the West Coast to face the 6th place team in the Western Conference, the Vancouver Whitecaps, who are 1-2-2 in their last five matches. Vancouver is enjoying a strong season under Vanni Sartini and are being led offensively by Brian White and Ryan Gauld who have tallied 13 and 10 goals, respectively.
Despite D.C. United's previous scoreline, a bright aspect of the match was Christian Benteke, who netted goals 11, 12, and 13 during the rainy affair at Audi Field. The first of which came from a well-worked set piece goal with Benteke confidently heading the ball past the Red Bull goalkeeper after Gabriel Pirani flicked the ball into the box:
