And just like that, the Eastern Conference is in a neck-and-neck race to make the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. After the midweek MLS action on Wednesday night, Troy Lesesne and D.C. United vaulted themselves back up into the thick of the Playoffs.
The Black-and-Red's midweek heroics were led late in the match by super-sub and 22-year-old midfielder, Gabriel Pirani. With just minutes left to salvage any points in Nashville, the playmaker went and scored two stoppage-time goals to secure an epic three points away from home.
With all to play for, and Playoff hopes on the line with each remaining game, the road trip for D.C. United continues as the squad touches down in New England for a fall matchup with the Revolution on Saturday night.
Led by Golden Boot leader, Christian Benteke, D.C. United can take confidence in their last matchup against the Revolution in which Benteke scored a hat trick on Feb. 24 to open the 2024 season at Audi Field. With another goal on Wednesday against Nashville, Benteke now sits on 22 goals for the year, with Denis Bouanga looming three goals back at 19.
After Saturday’s match against the Revolution, the Black-and-Red will enjoy a two week break from MLS Regular Season play before returning to action on Decision Day, October 19.
