Luis Silva motions hat trick to Davy Arnaud against Montreal - 2014

NEW YORK (Friday, June 13, 2014) – D.C. United forward Luis Silva was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 15 of the 2014 MLS season.

Luis Silva’s first-half hat trick fueled D.C. United’s 4-2 win over the Montreal Impact Wednesday night.

Silva gave D.C. the early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Fabian Espindola sent a creative pass to Silva in the box and he one-timed his shot into the lower left corner.

With the game tied at two, Silva put D.C. back in front in the 39th minute with a wonder strike from distance. After winning possession back in midfield, Silva’s solo effort ended in a curling shot from right outside the box that found the upper right corner of the goal.

Silva capped off his night by converting a penalty right in the fifth minute of first half stoppage time. Silva stepped up and sent a bullet into the left side of the net, sending Montreal Impact keeper Troy Perkins in the opposite direction.

D.C. United will hit the road for their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against the Rochester Rhinos on June 17 with their next League match against Seattle Sounders FC on June 28.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found athttp://www.soccerreporters.com/.
