Luis Silva nets his 11th

He’s on a roll. Luis Silva has scored 11 goals in 16 MLS matches, having already surpassed his own career-high (5) against the Colorado Rapids on Aug. 17, a game in which he tallied twice in a 4-2 win.

While hosting the Philadelphia Union at RFK on Sept. 27, Silva headed home the game-winner, earning United three points, and adding six points of separation between itself and co-second place teams Sporting Kansas City and the New England Revolution.

“Yea it was me in this game, I was able to score but you know I think it's a big group effort,” Silva said.

“Big” is an understatement, as it proved the difference. The finish was great, as well, redirecting a cross served by Chris Korb.

“It was a good ball, and I just wanted to keep it on frame, and I did so,” he said.

The game saw two yellow cards and a few quarrels, typical of this I-95 rivalry. With slightly less possession—46% to the Union’s 53%-- and one more shot registered for the visitors, the Black-and-Red continued its game plan of taking care of points at home in whatever fashion necessary.

“It wasn’t the prettiest game, but we got the win, and that’s all that matters,” the goal-scorer said. “That’s how playoffs are going to be. Sometimes we have to grind games out, and I think the team did a good job.”
