U.S. Men’s National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann has selected 22 players to participate in a week-long “transition camp” in Miami, ahead of the United States’ first-ever friendly against Puerto Rico this Sunday, May 22.
The camp marks the start of preparations for next month’s Copa America Centenario, and will serve as an opportunity for Klinsmann to begin working with players well ahead of the tournament’s start. Of the 22 players training this week--all of whom play their club football in Europe or Mexico--fifteen are eligible to be named to the final 23-man Copa roster. The remaining eight spots will be filled by MLS players, who won’t be released by the league until next Monday, May 23. (The final squad is expected to be announced sometime this week.)
Sunday’s match, which will take place at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, will air live on FS1, UniMás and UDN. Following the match, the MNT will return to the U.S., where the final Copa squad will face Ecuador on May 25 in Frisco, TX (7 PM CT, ESPN2 and UniMás) and Bolivia on May 28 in Kansas City, KS (7 PM CT, FS1 and Univision) before kicking off Copa America play on June 3 against Colombia.
