Texas and D.C. United: bringing the heat on day five…
Texas finally decided it was time to warm up, but the heat didn’t bother United. The Black-and-Red came out blazing against the Houston Dynamo on Friday, April 18. The first half was a defensive battle between the two sides. While Houston attacked down the middle, United sped up the wings. The breaking point came during stoppage time in the first half when Antonio Bustamante whipped in a corner and Donovan Pines headed it home. The Dynamo offense continued to press throughout the second half, but United frustrated and thwarted all of its attacks. Patrick Jean-Gilles converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute after Owen Marshall was taken down in the penalty area. Goalkeeper Zachary McMurrer was a solid defensive presence and preserved the 2-0 United win by coming up with several crucial saves throughout the game.
“The boys put in a great effort versus one of the best groups we have seen all year,” said D.C. United U-16 Head Coach Tom Torres. “The defensive unit gave us a stingy shift and goalkeeper Zachary McMurrer made several key saves to keep the shutout.”
